Concepts Citizens Should Know
The Constitution divides governmental powers between the national and state governments in the system know as the federalism, a system of government written constitution divides power between a Central government and Regional government. The Bill of Rights was added the Constitution to protect individuals rights and freedom. The first ten Amendments to the Constitution was ratified in1791. The amendments was designed to protect individuals rights and freedoms. Individuals have Freedom of Speech, Press, and Religion. Rights to Vote, Fair Trial, and Run for Elected Office. The Separation of Powers is a system designed to separate the three branches of government: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial.Checks and Balances is a system that was created in the Constitution so that "no branch will over power another or become more powerful". It make sure the powers are balanced among each Branch. Republicans are considered Conservative meaning that they believe that the people should be responsible for his/her own place in society, Republicans believes that the individuals should solve their own problems . Democrats are considered Liberals meaning they believe that the government is responsible to care for each individual , Democrats believe that the government should solve all the problems for the individuals. The Political affiliation is used to understand the beliefs of each candidate. Both Political Parties have different beliefs, but they each want the best for the individuals.
